Indian Financial Year Month Number in Excel

The Indian Financial Year start on 1 April. Like Australia its Financial Year month numbers can be painful. Here is a formula to sort them out.

The image below shows this year’s months and a few for next year.

The formula in cell B2 which has been copied down is

=MONTH(A2)+IF(MONTH(A2)>3,-3,9)

The MONTH function returns a number from 1 to 12 representing the calendar year month number.

This formula takes the calendar year month number and deducts 3 if the number is above 3 or adds 9 if the number is 3 or below.
