Getting a unique list in Excel

A PivotTable trick

I have blogged before about using the Advanced Filter technique to extract unique entries from a list. Well a PivotTable can do it it too.

Simply click inside the table that has the field you want to find the unique entries for and press, in sequence (not held down), Alt n v Enter

Insert_PT

This creates a new PivotTable in a new sheet using the default data range.

Drag the field you want to extract the unique entries from, to the Rows section of the PivotTable. Done.

unique_new_2You can copy the list from the PivotTable report to where ever you need it.

Click here to see the Advanced Filter Technique.
