Getting a unique list in Excel

A PivotTable trick

I have blogged before about using the Advanced Filter technique to extract unique entries from a list. Well a PivotTable can do it too.

Simply click inside the table that has the field you want to find the unique entries for and press, in sequence (not held down), Alt n v Enter

Insert_PT

This creates a new PivotTable in a new sheet using the default data range.

Drag the field you want to extract the unique entries from, to the Rows section of the PivotTable. Done.

unique_new_2You can copy the list from the PivotTable report to where ever you need it.

Click here to see the Advanced Filter Technique.
